Fixer Upper

1930s English Tudor in Winnetka

If you’ve read our post ‘5 Things to Consider When Looking For a Fixer Upper‘ you already know all about the 5 things we look for in a development project:

  • Location
  • Size
  • Approachability
  • Market Time
  • Salvagability

In other words, we look for the house in the best location, on the most beautiful block in the worst condition. And then we make it beautiful. Just like we did at this gorgeous 1930s English Tudor in Winnetka. We loved this home so much that we moved our own family in – it’s been one of the most amazing experiences living in the finished product.

Rome wasn’t built in a day and this home took us time, attention and love to furnish every room but it’s finally ready! After photos are coming soon. In the meantime, want to see how it all started?

This was a two-year long project and it needed the works! So we gave it our very best.

  • All-new roof
  • New plumbing
  • New electrical
  • New appliances
  • New bathroom fixtures
  • New countertops
  • New insulation
  • New HVAC
  • New Millwork
  • …and more

This home is finally ready to share and more photos are coming soon. You can follow along on Instagram at @gracekaage for real-time updates! I look forward to connecting with you!

On a rainy Tuesday afternoon, I lit a candle on my kitchen counter, not for the scent, but for the comfort. The sky was gray, dishes were drying in the rack, and I still had emails to answer. But in that moment, something shifted. The soft glow, the warm scent of bergamot and cedar, made […]

Most people think updating their home means tearing it apart. New floors, new furniture, massive bills. But here’s the truth: you don’t need to start from scratch to fall in love with your space again. Sometimes, the smallest swaps, a new sconce here, a better rug there, can create the biggest impact. Simple Swaps Hardware […]

A few years ago, I walked into a new client’s home, a two-story colonial in a great neighborhood, with great bones… and a kitchen straight out of 2004. Think cherry cabinets, speckled granite, orange stained floors, and brushed nickel hardware trying its best to hold the decade together. “I know it’s dated,” she said with […]
