The Design Office is a 7-week live course taught by Grace Kaage for homeowners planning a major renovation, addition, or custom home, and professionals who want to better guide their clients through the process.

Great design begins long before you choose a single finish. It starts with asking the right questions. Is this the right house? Are you planning the right project? How should the space function? Where should you invest, and what should you leave alone?

Over seven weeks, I’ll teach you the same framework we use at Kaage Homes to approach complex residential projects, from identifying a property’s potential to protecting the design throughout construction.

Here’s what we’ll cover:

1. Identifying the Right Project: Recognize potential, evaluate your options, and determine whether to renovate, build, move, or pursue a combination.

2. Defining the Vision & Building Your Team: Establish your priorities and assemble the right professionals to bring your project to life.

3. Designing & Planning Your Home: Think critically about space, function, flow, and the architectural decisions that shape a cohesive home.

4. Choosing the Right Design Materials: Learn how to approach selections thoughtfully, balancing aesthetics, performance, and budget.

5. Pricing the Project & Understanding Your Bid: Understand how projects are estimated, what to look for in a construction bid, and how to make informed financial decisions.

6. Ordering Materials on Time & in Order: Understand procurement, lead times, and why the sequence of purchasing decisions matters.

7. Protecting the Vision While It’s Being Built: Learn how to navigate construction decisions without losing sight of the design you set out to create.

This isn’t a course about doing the work yourself. It’s about knowing how to make the decisions that guide the work.

Whether you’re creating your own home or helping someone else create theirs, you’ll leave with a framework for approaching the process thoughtfully, asking better questions, and making informed decisions before the expensive work begins.

Because the goal isn’t simply to create a beautiful home. It’s to make sure you’re creating the right home in the first place.

What happens after you enroll

Right after checkout, you’ll get an order confirmation email with everything you need to know. On October 16, you’ll receive your invitation to our private online community. That’s where you’ll find class links, recordings, course materials, and announcements throughout the seven weeks. Your printed Executive Binder will arrive before our first class on October 26.
